I would rate this book a 5 because I like the Alex Rider series and I thought this was the best of them all. It had the most action, and it also kept me wanting to read more. By Josh C.

Alex Rider: Stormbreaker, by Anthony Horowitz

Stormbreaker is an exciting book and is filled with action. Fourteen-year-old Alex Rider never knew his parents because they died when he was very young, so he lived with his Uncle Ian and his housekeeper Jack. One day Alex hears a knock on the door and opens it to see a police officer who tells him his uncle has died in a car accident. Alex knew that his uncle was a very careful man and Alex didn’t believe he had died that way. Bullet holes in the side of Ian’s car confirmed that he hadn’t died in a car accident. Then Alex was told the truth. His uncle had worked for the MI6, Britain’s top-secret intelligence agency, but that wasn’t all; they forced Alex to work for them too. So Alex is sent to investigate Sayle Enterprises. He thinks it’s just a factory, but as time goes on, Alex discovers something that no one saw coming.
Stormbreaker is very exciting and always keeps the reader waiting for more. It’s just the first of many action-packed Alex Rider books.

Blown Away, by Joan Hiatt Harlow (Realistic Fiction)
This is a story that takes place in the summer of 1935 in Islamorada, an island between the mainland of Florida and the Florida Keys. It is about a thirteen year-old boy named Jake and his many adventures. He is friends with a man named Sharky and helps him with his work, which is a variety of things such as caulking boats, painting, and even skinning alligators. Sharky buys a mule named Jewel and a dog named Rudy, both of whom Jake really likes. Jake is also friends with a girl named Mara whose parents both died. She came to Islamorada because her only living relative lives there.
A hurricane strikes Islamorada and destroys the town. Jake and his family are on a train to try to escape from the hurricane. All of a sudden a huge wave strikes the train and Jake and his family are separated. Mara gets killed in the hurricane. You will have to read the book to find out what happens to Jake and his family.
I would recommend the book to others because there is always something exciting happening. It kept you wanting to keep reading. I would give it 4 out of 5 stars because it was a little hard to follow. Other than that it was a great book.

Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen
Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen is a Newbery award-winning book that is very exciting to read. The main character is Brian Robeson who is thirteen years old. The book takes place in modern times in the Canadian woods. Brian travels from New York and goes to meet his father in Canada. His parents are divorced and before he leaves his mom gives him a gift of a hatchet. He is traveling alone with a pilot in a small plane when suddenly the pilot gets a heart attack and dies. Brian tries to guide the plane while it flies itself for a while but it eventually crashes into a lake and Brian fortunately survives. During the rest of the book, he goes through many adventures as he tries to survive. He is alone in the wilderness with his hatchet. First he makes a shelter and then while looking for berries he sees a bear. He realizes that his hatchet makes sparks, so he can make a fire. He is able to make tools and weapons with it. He has many other scary experiences including with a moose, a porcupine, and a tornado. Some of these adventures were the ones that kept me reading. I could not imagine what I would do if I were in the same position. Because of the books excitement, I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

In Too Deep by, Jude Watson Adventure; Realistic Fiction
The newest book in the 39 Clues series is In Too Deep, by Jude Watson, and it is marvelous. It has plenty of action and excitement to go along with Jude Watson’s great writing. The story is about two children, Dan (10) and Amy (12), and their nanny, Nellie, who are searching for 39 clues so they can become the most powerful people alive. Nobody knows who set up the clues but everyone knows that four groups of people are looking for them, and the clues have been around since the time of ancient Egypt. They run into others who also want to find the clues and it can get very dangerous. The two children must escape trouble while advancing further into the race for the 39 clues. I absolutely loved this book and anybody who likes to read should try it. It is a very fast read that anybody will enjoy. I would give this book a five out of five for its wonderful plot and for Watson's superb writing.

Tiger, by Jeff Stone (Realistic Fiction)
This book is a very thrilling story filled with action and adventure. It starts out with a young master of the tiger style of Kung Fu named Fu, and his brothers Long, Seh, Hok, and Malao, running away from their former brother Ying(when I say brother I mean that he is in the Kong Fo group). Ying wants to kill them and their master and take the dragon scrolls, which are the center of the series. The dragon scrolls are the key to dragon style Kung Fu and one scroll is a map to many treasures. Before Grandmaster, the leader of the temple, dies, he tells his pupils to run away and change the heart of Ying and the evil Emperor. This first book of the series talks about what Fu is doing when he runs away from his temple. He does various things in this book like becoming a blood brother with a Tiger, getting captured by a village, and meeting up with three of his brothers Seh, Hok, and Malao. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in fighting and adventure. It was a great book and I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

The Twenty-One Balloons, by Willam Pene du Bois
This book is a winner of the Newbery Medal but I wouldn’t give it a medal. The writer went overboard in technical details which bored me. The story, which takes place in 1883, is about a balloon traveler who shares his experience with the people of San Francisco. He tells them the story of when he landed his balloon on the volcanic island known as Krakatoa. It is located in the Indian Ocean. The islanders were rich Europeans who earned money by mining diamonds. Each family ran a restaurant where the others came one day a month to eat. They had a strange way of organizing their society and used technology to help them live well. The book is called Twenty-One Balloons because that is how the balloon traveler got all of his friends off the island before the eruption of the volcano. Overall, I rate this adventure book a two out of five stars.
