Curse of the Crocodile GodReviewed by Benjy HOne night Methen’s father led Methen across the desert into town to meet Lord Ini. As they were sitting down, Methen saw a slave girl and a man arguing. The slave girl came to their table and said: “Can I help you”? Methen wanted to ask her why she was in an argument but she said she couldn’t talk right now and asked him to meet her tomorrow at a well. The next night, he crept out and met the servant. Her name was Madja, and she was a servant in Lord Ini’s palace. They heard people coming and hid. After they were at a safe distance, they decided to follow the three mysterious men. They were heading towards a pyramid, and they opened a secret door. They were tomb robbers! Madja and Methen went to follow them inside the pyramid. The next day soldiers were searching for the culprits. Madja and Methen went to search the three men’s boat, but the three men found them and made them jump into hippo infested water, but they swam away and hid. In the morning they went to the palace of lord Ini, and told him who the thieves were. However, Lord Ini didn’t believe them but they insisted. Lord Ini said that if Methen and Madja were lying, they would die. They could only hope there would be proof. I would rate this book 2 stars because it was very short, and had a very simple and basic plot. I would not recommend this book at all.
The Price of VictoryReviewed by Benjy H
Pylades is an 11 year old boy and lives with his parents, his brother, and his sister. His older brother Kinesias is a magnificent runner and plans to compete in the
Olympics. However, they are worried because they believe the gods have sent signs warning Kinesias not to compete in the Olympics. One evening in Sparta, a secret meeting was about to take place. They were discussing the Olympic Games. They hatched a ruthless plan to try and make Kinesias unable to compete so they would have a better chance of winning. After one of Kinesias’ training sessions, he took Pylades to their uncle’s party. After the party, as they were leaving, a slave handed them a slate that read “Attend not the games, Kinesias!” “I have spoken!” Signed by Athene, who was a goddess. All day, Pylades was looking for bad omens from the gods, because of the words on the slate from the other night. One omen was a statue of Athene that almost fell on Kinesias. They went to the place from where the statue fell and talked to the owner. He said that a man was living there for a while but had just recently left. Pylades, and Kinesias set out to find him. They asked the owner of the place where the man had gone, and he said the man had gone to the theater. So, they set off for the theater. The culprit noticed that they were looking for him and he fled. However, his seal fell out of his pocket, and Pylades and Kinesias picked it up. They told the story to the council members who decided that Kinesais should flee to Athens where it would be much safer for him. The criminals found out that they were taking a ship to Athens and they made a hole in the boat. When Kinesias and Pylades set sail, the hole in the boat made them sink. Will they be able to make it to the Olympics in time for Kinesias to run?
I would rate this book 2 starts because it didn’t have many interesting details and was very vague when explaining things.
